We are currently recruiting for the following role:


Teacher of English

Full time

We welcome applications for Teacher of English, starting 28th August 2024. The New School was formed in 2020 and our mission is to positively change the way we educate our children in the UK. We are a research school co-creating a new approach to education that puts children at the heart of their learning experience. We prioritise their self-esteem, confidence, knowledge, and skills so they can develop their agency skills, and we use this knowledge to evolve the educational narrative in the UK.

Person specification

We currently have young people from 4 to 14 years. By 2026, we will have grown into an all-through school accommodating students up to the age of 16 and are looking for a committed and enthusiastic teacher to join our team within our democratic decision-making work environment. As someone who will be an ambassador for The New School you will lead on English curriculum design and schemes of work, planning lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within the class, in accordance with the National Curriculum.

You will be proficient in Secondary English and Media teaching up to GCSE level. You will be someone who confidently collaborates with colleagues and young people to create an environment that works for learning, exploration, experimentation and relaxation which are a crucial part of our teaching practice. You will facilitate and support self-directed time within the timetable. You will be someone who believes in a restorative justice approach to behaviour management, is flexible and adaptable in an innovative environment, and you will understand how to hold young people and their voice in partnership with adults.

We are an attachment and trauma-informed school and are committed to implementing the principles of social justice. You will be responsible for setting respectful boundaries without using rewards or punishment, and you will be skilled at holding space for our young people to build their skills.

This is a full-time position and, as we always aim to expand the diversity within our team, we welcome applications from those who wish to work more flexibly.
