The New School's first art exhibition

The idea of the exhibition came along as part of informal conversations with young peopler from Class 1 & Class 2 to celebrate their work and as a way to see what everyone has been working on.

This last half-term we have been exploring colour theory across all the different classes at the school: from mixing colours, understanding shades, tints and warm & cold colours. We have been looking at Georgia O'Keeffe, Vincent Van Gogh and Wassily Kandinsky.

We always talk about the artist's life and young people loved that Kandinsky believed that 'Colours have a life of their own' so we decided to use it as the title for the exhibition as it perfectly matches their work for the term. Inspired by the exhibition title and by the book 'The day the crayons quit' by Oliver Jeffers, this week we have been creating visual stories about the secret life of colours. What is Red doing when no one is looking? What happens to Blue if he decides to jump out the blue sea?

Our Art Teacher, Miriam Baez, said, “I have been leading the curating part of the show as it has been a challenge to make the space suitable for an exhibition, but the young people have been involved this week in its final stages. Hopefully,we will have another one next term and as they will already know the process and it will be easier for them to get more involved from the beginning.”

The exhibition will be open to parents between 3pm and 4:15pm on the following dates:

Monday 14th December- Reception

Tuesday 15th December - Class 1M

Wednesday 16th December - Class 1C

Thursday 17th December - Class 2
