Schools' poverty gap a 'major challenge' - Estyn

In a BBC News article, the education watchdog highlighted that ‘the performance gap between pupils from less well-off homes and their classmates has failed to narrow over a decade and remains a "major challenge,"‘.

At The New School we believe that to be successful you have to be happy first.

We have a basic human need to belong and to feel significant. The number one key factor for engagement in learning and wellbeing in future life, is having a strong relationship with a key adult at school-usually the teacher. To be known and to be seen relies on respectful adult-child relationships, smaller schools, quality pastoral support, relationship and partnership focused education with families and the local community, and ideally all-through schools to avoid the arbitrary transition at age 11. These are key values we should focus on in education.

Happiness and feeling significant are crucial in a young person’s life.
