We currently have two vacancies in our team for September 2026.

Secondary English Teacher with Drama

We are seeking a Secondary English and drama teacher will be responsible for delivering quality teaching and learning to classes across both KS3 and KS4 including qualifications. They will support the English lead to develop the curriculum, pedagogy and assessment in both subjects. The ideal candidate will be qualified to deliver English and drama to GCSE or BTEC and have experience teaching at secondary level, including to the final qualifications. 

We are looking for an experienced, reflective, and creative teacher to join our team and deliver a rich, inclusive, and engaging curriculum. You will plan and teach your subject/s, while supporting self-directed learning, enquiry-based projects, and participating in innovating teaching and learning according to the school’s ethos. With a strong commitment to inclusion, diversity, and student agency, you will tailor your teaching to meet individual needs and interests, encouraging young people to become confident, independent learners. You will also help our young people develop learning to learn skills and executive functioning, and help young people develop sociocratic and democratic participation skills in their school community.

Head of Pastoral, Behaviour and Wellbeing

The New School is seeking a strong leader in the areas of Pastoral, Behaviour and Wellbeing for a start date of September 2026. This role will lead the pastoral and safeguarding approach, developing and coordinating our pioneering and unique pastoral department. They will ensure every young person is able to develop socially and emotionally, and feel a sense of belonging while at school. In order to do this, the Head of Pastoral, Behaviour and Wellbeing (Head of PBW) will lead multiple different elements of the school of 110 young people – including safeguarding, PSHE, wellbeing, and behaviour – enabling them to ensure a consistent and joined-up approach.

The Head of PBW is key to maintaining and developing our unique practice. The New School has a relational approach to care and is non-punitive, resolving conflict through restorative justice. You will be required to model best practice in your interactions with young people and adults, always listening and being respectful, boundaried, and empathetic.

Safeguarding statement

The welfare and safety of our students will always be our priority. We do everything possible to secure our young people’s safety.

The New School has specialist staff who lead on safeguarding our young people, including liaising with social services. All our colleagues are responsible for safeguarding children and young people.

Guiding principles

  • Ensure we practice safer recruitment in checking the suitability of staff and volunteers to work with children.

  • Raise awareness of child protection issues and equip children with the skills needed to keep them safe.

  • Have procedures in place for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases, of abuse, working alongside outside agencies to protect our students.

  • Support students who have been abused in accordance with his/her agreed child protection plan.

  • Establish a safe environment in which children can learn and develop.

  • Be vigilant for signs of abuse.
