We're recruiting!

The New School opens its doors in Croydon this September and we are on the hunt for exceptional, local teachers who want to shake up the education system and pioneer a new approach. We have eight posts to fill including Art, Media, and STEM teachers, with the selected candidates expected to break the rules of traditional teaching in the classroom.

If you’re a local teacher who is fed up with being taken away from the classroom to fill out yet more paperwork, then come and join us. If you’re a newly qualified teacher who wants to truly unleash the creativity and potential of Croydon children rather than make them sit test after test, then come and join us. If you’re thinking of returning to teaching after a break and want a truly co-creative and collaborative team that will focus on a new set of outcomes, then come and join us.

We have developed an innovative model based on research of schools in the US and other countries. The approach involves children making decisions about their education. More play, more inclusivity and more agency for both children and teachers is making a huge difference to the outcomes of schools that have adopted this approach worldwide.

The school will have a focus on culturally-responsive teaching and there will be no attainment quotas or mandatory end of year tests.

We want our staff to reflect the Croydon population and work towards engaging all young people in learning, giving them a sense of agency and supporting young people to engage in local community issues. For teachers who want to work with small classes and a collaborative team to create a more equitable education system, this is a rewarding place to be.

The school is based at St.Mary’s Lodge, next to Virgo Fidelis Secondary School on Central Hill, surrounded by playing fields and woodland which will enhance the wellbeing of both staff and children.

The New School is open to 4-16 year olds (although the first attendees will be 4-11) and teacher posts start in September 2020.  Find out more about the teacher vacancies at www.thenewschool.org.uk/vacancies. The deadline for submissions is 12 midnight on Sunday 23rd February.
